In 2005, Sunrise MRI, a division of Universal Medical Concepts, contracted with Stentor, Inc. (now owned by Philips Medical Systems, Inc.) to provide image access and distribution to its physicians using the Philips product, iSite Enterprise. Philips’ iSite Enterprise is an enterprise-wide web-based image distribution solution that delivers the power of radiology to the point of patient care.
According to Larry Charson, Executive Vice President of Diagnostic Services at Sunrise MRI, iSite Enterprise gives physicians the ability to get their patient results quickly and accurately. “We don’t print films and send them via courier. We give our referring physicians direct access to the system. They can go in and retrieve both the reports and view the images as soon as the patient leaves the table.”
This speed of results means a lot to both patient care and patient satisfaction. Finding out that something may be wrong with you is bad enough without the agony of waiting for test results. “With iSite Enterprise, before the patient leaves the office, the images are available for our referring physicians to review. The patient can go directly back to the referring physician’s office, sit down with his or her own physician and look at the results. The physicians like having access to the images when they speak to the patient about their care,” says Charson.
Most offices have to wait on films or ask the patient to bring a copy of the films or CD with them. “While we can provide a CD or films if a physician wants them, iSite Enterprise eliminates the need to ask a patient to remember the CD when he returns to the physician’s office. iSite Enterprise also allows us to save money by eliminating film and film supplies. Keeping films takes time, space and money.
“Important to me is the patient timeline,” says Dr. Michael Roberts of Sunrise MRI and Memorial Healthcare System. “When I am diagnosing the progression of a patient’s condition, I want to see older images for comparison. iSite Enterprise gives me a timeline and access to older studies as well. I get a complete view of the patient’s history—quickly and easily.”
